Mobile User Consumption Data

Since it first surpassed desktop in 2014, mobile user rates of increased the usage rate gap. Currently, people spend 59 percent of their Internet time on mobile, as compared to 41 percent on desktop. However, conversions remain a challenge, with just 15 percent of user dollars being sent on mobile. There is some good news, as recent data shows a 64 percent growth in smartphone conversions relative to desktop conversion rates.

Video has become the dominant format for Internet consumption, and subsequently, marketing activities. A whopping 90 percent of survey respondents recently indicated they watch videos on mobile, compared to just 72 percent who reported the same on desktop.

In addition to videos, mobile users rely heavily on text messages, apps and other features for eCommerce. Eight percent of mobile usage time is spent in apps. A reported 79 percent of mobile users leverage SMS opt-in subscriptions for help in shopping.

Data on Mobile Marketing Activities

Savvy marketers react as quickly as possible to evolving trends in user consumption and preferences. The aforementioned data contributes to recent growth in video content marketing, app executions and SMS marketing.

In addition, marketers are utilizing advanced technologies to target precise users based on their unique behaviors. In-game mobile ads target gamers based on their demographics, geography and behaviors. Location-based target enables companies to send messages and promotions to people who get within a short distance of a store. QR code marketing has also experienced a resurgence in recent years.

Conclusions

You can’t ignore the facts about mobile marketing consumption. Users continue to spend more time, and increasingly, more money on mobile devices relative to desktop. Video consumption rates, app usage, SMS opt-ins are all excellent ways to tap into the patterns of behavior this mobile user data reveals.
